As soon as you start typing, the Word automatically starts counting the number of words and number of pages and displays the information on the status bar. If the word count is not available in your status bar, you can right click the status bar and then select the Word Count option from its menu. Basic steps to check your word count are:
- First, Open the document
- Now, Look at bottom left corner of your document
- You will now see the total world count and the number of pages in that document

To know the exact word count of a specific line or paragraph you have to first select it and then Word will display its word count along with the total word count, e.g. 15/40. In this example, this particular selection has 15 words out of the total number of words are 40.
