Functions of Vitamins

Vitamins are essential as they perform the hundreds of functions in the human body. Vitamin A is needed for the healthy skin, tooth, and bone growth, immune system health, mucous membrane and for the vision. Vitamin D is stored in the bones and is essential for the proper absorption of calcium in the body. Vitamin E has the function of the protection of the cell wall, and it serves as an antioxidant. Vitamin K is much essential for proper blood clotting if its required or optimum amount is not present in the body, then bleeding from the injuries may not be stopped and much of the blood of the body will be wasted.

Vitamin C is the part of the enzyme that is needed for the metabolism of the proteins, it aids in the absorption of iron, and is helpful for the immune system. It also works as an antioxidant. Vitamin B12 that is also known as cobalamin is the part of an enzyme that is required for making the new cells. Also, it has significant importance to the nerve function. Folic acid is the part of an enzyme that is needed to make the DNA and new cells. Especially, it is significantly important for red blood cells. Vitamin B6 that is also known as the pyridoxine is part of an enzyme that is needed for protein synthesis and helps in the formation of the red blood cells. Biotin and pantothenic acids are part of an enzyme that is required for the metabolism of energy. Vitamin B3 that is also known as niacin is extremely important for energy metabolism and is essential for skin health and the normal vision. Vitamin B1 that is known as Thiamine is important for the nerve functions and is the part of an enzyme that is needed for the metabolism of energy.

In general, vitamins have numerous functions in the human body as they help to heal the wounds, to shore up the bones, and to bolster the immune system. They also repair the cellular damage in the body and act on food and convert it to the energy that is needed for life activities. Often, the vitamins are also called as the micronutrients and if they are not present in the appropriate amount the body cannot function normally. Consumption of the vitamins prevents the birth defects, makes the bones stronger, and guarantees healthy teeth. The lack of vitamins in the body can cause substantial harm but their consumption in sufficient amounts will cause substantial benefits.
