Untold life of Viggo Mortensen

He's a polyglot - He can speak seven languages. He's fluent in English, Spanish, Danish, and French, with a decent knowledge of Italian, Norwegian, and Swedish.

Danish - His father is Danish and his mother was American. He inherited his unique name from his father.

Spanish - Mortensen's family lived in Venezuela and Argentina when he was still young, which explains the Spanish. 

Norwegian - His parents had actually met in Norway and later moved to the US, where he was born.

Swedish - Mortensen reportedly worked as a translator at the 1980 Winter Olympics for Sweden's hockey team.

Painter - Some of his most famous pieces are 'Forget Time,' 'Mother memory,' and 'After Darkly Noon.'

Poet - Mortensen moved to Denmark after university and wrote poetry in Danish, and since then he has published several collections of poems.

Author - In addition to poetry, Mortensen has written stories and at least one screenplay.

Photographer - He has numerous photography books, which often include his poetry, based on themes of everything from horses to backyard pools.

Big sports fan - Best known for its soccer team, Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro is an Argentine sports club based in Buenos Aires.

A lover - In 1982, he moved back from Denmark to New York for love. It didn't last, but he was back in the place of acting auditions! 

He met his first wife on set - Mortensen connected with his co-star Exene Cervenka, lead singer of punk band X, while filming 'Have You Said Your Prayers Today?'

He's an accomplished equestrian -
He's so taken with equestrianism, in fact, that he bought the horses he rode in 'The Lord of the Rings' movies and the film 'Hidalgo.'

He turned down 'The Lord of the Rings' - Mortensen initially turned down a role in the now historical series because he wanted to spend more time with his son.

Directorial debut - Mortensen wrote, directed, and starred in 2020's 'Falling,' a film about a conservative father who leaves his rural farm to stay with his gay son in LA.

Does he seem like an only child? - He actually has two younger siblings, who are both geologists.
