WordPress – Personal Profile
Personal Profile websites have proven to be more advantageous than traditional resumes. Websites are more dynamic, personalized, and accessible. Through this tutorial, you will learn how to set up a personal profile resume website.
Step 1: Buy a Domain Name
The domain name is the website people need to enter in order to access your personal website. It is most preferable to use your name as the domain name. Ending the domain name with .com is a good choice as it is the most commonly used extension. If your name is not available, you may choose alternatives depending on what you desire.
Domain names can be purchased from websites such as godaddy.com and other domain name provider websites.
Step 2: Purchase a Hosting Plan
In order to set up your website and make it available to the public, you will need to choose a hosting plan. Hosting is often cheap and goes for as low as $5/month. The most important aspect to keep in mind when choosing your hosting provider is the speed and customer service. In addition, you can take advantage of the fact that most domain name providers also offer hosting services.
After you have purchased your hosting plan, you will be sent an email welcoming you and providing you with essential information you will need when hosting. Most importantly, you will be given the link, username, and password to login to your hosting dashboard. The most common hosting dashboard is cPanel.
Step 3: Activate WordPress
Most hosting services provide a one-click download option from the dashboard in order to install WordPress automatically. If that is not an option, you can download it manually from wordpress.org
WordPress will have its own username and password, so keep note of that information during installation as you will need it to login every time. After installation is complete, you may access the WordPress dashboard from a link which looks something like this: http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin
From thereon, you may personalize your personal profile according to what you see best.
